Who is that masked man? When I was a kid, some (???) years ago, this question was asked in every episode of “The Lone Ranger.” Since then, my life has evolved into one with a mission to give a little back. When I say ‘give back’, I am not inferring I gained great monetary wealth; more accurately, the wealth to which I refer is about alliances, friendships, and a level of wisdom that is not attained by earning degrees, awards, and/or accommodations.

As a young man, even before college, I was the “love letter writer,” the “relationship adviser” of sorts; a kinda’ life coach, as is its present designation, for many of my fiends. It seemed then and has since evolved into a talent for writing and a thirst for knowledge that has fueled my ambition to help the ‘un’ and ‘underemployed’ as well as those who merely seek career or job changes, open valid opportunities to that end.

After college (Marketing and Advertising) I began a career in the wholesale toy industry. For twenty of a twenty-seven year stint I was the National Sales Manager for a major east coast toy distributor. During that tenure it was an important part of my job to I hire, train, and mold both already talented and those novice to sales, how best to conquer the challenges inherent of achieving greatness as consumer product sales representatives.

At that time there were no Human Resource departments to pre-screen and first-interview prospective employees; there were no on-line job sites on which to post job vacancies; there were no pre-employment on-line psychological compatibility tests; there wasn't the rigorous process of rules and regulations presently expected within applicant cover letters and resumes. Most times applicants filled-out standard company applications from which the interview, much less formal than now, was conducted.

It’s true; many highly qualified “applicants” are never given the opportunity to present their wares. The hiring process has become intrinsically random and for most job applicants the odds of getting interviews is up there with winning one’s State Lottery.

Utilizing these innate abilities has contributed to excellent investigative and literary skills. Adding to these the basics of marketing and advertising has resulted in what has proven to be a very effective “odds-leveler” methodology for writing cover letters and resumes.
