Total nonfarm payroll employment declined by 125,000 in June,
and the unemployment rate edged down to 9.5 percent, the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The decline
in payroll employment reflected a decrease (-225,000) in the
number of temporary employees working on Census 2010.

Total unemployed persons 14.6 million (-400,000)
Unemployment rate, (9.5 percent) down from 9.7%

Adult women (7.8 percent) down from 8.1
Adult men (9.9 percent)

Whites (8.6 percent) down from 8.8
Blacks (15.4 percent)
Hispanics (12.4 percent) no change
Asians (7.7 percent) up from 7.5
Long-term unemployed (27 weeks plus) unchanged at
6.8 million (45.5 percent of unemployed persons)
The civilian labor force participation rate fell by 0.3 percentage
point in June to 64.7 percent.
The employment to population ratio is 58.5 percent
Involuntary part-time workers (8.6 million) no change but down
by 525,000 over the past 2 months (Working part time because
their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to
find a full- time job)
Discouraged workers 1.2 Million (+ 414,000 from 06/09)
